UGANDA’S ECONOMIC PROSPECTS AFTER 2026 COMMERCIAL OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION

UGANDA’S ECONOMIC PROSPECTS AFTER 2026 COMMERCIAL OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION  Opportunities, Risks and the Future of National Transformation By David Maclaren Kiiza Introduction Uganda stands at one of the most important turning points in its modern economic history. After decades of oil exploration, infrastructure planning, and international negotiations, the country is preparing for commercial oil and gas production beginning in 2026. The launch of oil exports through the East African Crude Oil Pipeline is expected to transform Uganda’s economy, attract billions in investment, and accelerate industrial development.  For many Ugandans, oil represents hope for improved infrastructure, jobs, industrialization, and increased government revenue. Economists project that Uganda’s GDP growth could rise sharply after first oil production, with some forecasts expecting double-digit growth during the initial years of oil exports. However, history from other oil-producing nations shows that...

Ebook - ARCHITECTS OF ORDER

‎ARCHITECTS OF ORDER ‎By David Maclaren Kiiza ‎ ‎ ‎Introduction: The Blueprint of Civilization ‎ ‎Human civilization has always been caught between two forces—chaos and order. Without order, society disintegrates into confusion; without structure, communities cannot grow, innovate, or sustain themselves. Yet, order does not arise by accident. It is designed, cultivated, and maintained by men and women who take upon themselves the responsibility to shape systems, laws, beliefs, and institutions. These are the Architects of Order—the thinkers, leaders, innovators, and ordinary people who create frameworks that allow humanity to thrive. ‎ ‎Like builders who draw blueprints for cities, these architects sketch invisible blueprints for society. Their work stretches across generations, influencing everything from governance to education, from science to spirituality. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Chapter One: The Ancient Designers of Harmony ‎ ‎The earliest civilizations understo...

UNDERSTANDING BUILDING CRACKS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AND WHY YOU NEED TO HIRE PROFESSIONALS.

Image
By David Maclaren KIIZA When you traverse urban setups in Uganda particularly, one would realize that in almost every building; whether very old over 30years or new less than 5 years; cracks are evident.it still beats my understanding as to why buildings constructed before 1962 Uganda independence and early 1970’s barely have cracks unless the structured has or is being tampered with due to remodeling Nyakasura School Administration block (left) built in the late 1920’s and Dining Hall (right) built in the 1960’s Talking to Raymond Banyanga a RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor with JR Consultants and Eng Sabil Ismael Byaruhanga a Consultant with Ground Control Engineering and Construction Ltd; the two all agreed that  Cracks in a building are of common occurrence because a building component develops cracks whenever stress in the component exceeds its strength hence are classified in to structural and non structural categories. The structural ones include faulty design, f...

TOP 3 CHALLENGES AFTER BECOMING AN ENGINEERING MANAGER

Becoming an Engineering Manager is a significant career milestone for many engineers or tech leaders. As a manager, you are responsible for leading a team of technical experts, overseeing the development of projects, and ensuring that the work is delivered on time and at the highest quality. However, the transition from an individual contributor to a manager is not without its challenges. One of my mentees asked me about the challenges I faced after taking on my new role as an Engineering Manager, so this article will provide insights and my recommendations on how to overcome them. These challenges include balancing technical and managerial responsibilities, leading and inspiring a team, and effective communication. For each challenge I proposed 3 solutions. Challenge 1 –  There is a delay between your actions and results When you move from an individual contributor role to a manager role, one of the first things you observe is represented by the reduced speed of seeing the effe...

WHY PROFESSIONALISM IS IMPORTANT TO AN ENGINEER?   Turning one’s potential ability into reality cuts across all professions globally, however, in Uganda’s particular scenario professionalism is emphasized only by both educational and regulatory professional institutions but in reality, less attention towards professionalism is evident in all industries. I would like to specifically tackle the engineering profession which in the most recent days has gained or attracted the highest degree of public criticism due to failures either in what their product outputs are or focusing on the rampart collapsing city building structures in the capital Kampala and other newly created cities like Fort-Portal, Mbarara, Jinja, Mbale etc. Professional practices of civil engineering are in most cases ignored by the technical tradesmen and they always forge their way out. One would ask what exactly is the importance and relevance of Professionalism to an engineer. Engineering being a great fi...

ORIGIN OF HIV AIDS

ORIGIN OF HIV & AIDS Sunset on the Congo River  HIV first began to spread along the historic trade routes of the Congo basin in the 1920s. KEY POINTS: HIV crossed from chimps to humans in the 1920s in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. This was probably as a result of chimps carrying the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV), a virus closely related to HIV, being hunted and eaten by people living in the area. The origin of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has been a subject of scientific research and debate since the virus was identified in the 1980s. There is now a wealth of evidence on how, when and where HIV first began to cause illness in humans. You can find out more about the origins and history of HIV through our interactive timeline, where you can read, watch, listen and explore key events from the history of the epidemic. The link between HIV and SIV HIV is a type of lentivirus, which means it attacks the immune system. In a similar way, the Simian...
