UNEB RELEASES 2022 EXAMINATIONS TIME TABLES

By David Maclaren Kiiza
Maintaining UNEB season’s theme, “Integrity and Security in the Management of Examinations; the Health and Safety of Learners is joint responsibility”.The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Thursday released the 2022 examination timetables for Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations. This is in line with the Board’s policy of inclusiveness and equitable assessment of learner’s achievements, According to Dan Odongo the executive director of UNEB said that braille versions of the timetables have been provided to cater for learners with visual impairment with soft copies are being uploaded on school portals, while the printed copies are now being packed along with other examination stationery. Heads of Examination centers and District Inspectors of schools will be advised when to pick the materials while Head teachers who registered blind candidates should remember to pick the brailed timetable along with the stationery. The timetables include Regulations on the conduct of the examinations and caution to candidates on acts that amount to examination malpractice. Head teachers are also requested to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to brief the candidates to follow these regulations and the caution given. Failure to comply; shall lead to cancellation of results of a candidate or all candidates at the center or disqualification from the examination. Cases of examination malpractice that can lead to disqualification, cancellation of results or arrest of a candidate have been clearly spelt out on the timetable. Parents are also advised to take keen interest in the timetable to support the candidates in every way possible. This year's national examinations will commence on 14th October 2022 with the briefing of UCE candidates. UCE, which is the first series of examinations to be conducted, will run until 18th November, 2022. The second series of examinations is the PLE, which will be conducted from 7th - 9th November 2022, starting with the briefing of the candidates. UACE will commence on 18th November - 9th December, 2022. The Board appeals to head teachers to conduct these briefings personally. The Board has noted previously, that where cases of irregularities and malpractice have been noted, the root causes have often been that candidates would have been poorly briefed, or not briefed at all.Overview of the 2022 candidature shows that a total of one million, two hundred eighty thousand, one hundred and seventy two (1,280,172) candidates have registered for all the three levels of the final examinations. This indicates a percentage increase of 7.7% of the total candidature. 56% of the total candidature - seven hundred and fifty one, three hundred thirty six (751,336) learners are funded by the Government, while 44% - five hundred and sixty four thousand, eight hundred thirty six (564,836) candidates are privately sponsored. The details of the candidates registered are in Table 1 belowTable: 2022 registered candidatesThe Board would like to inform both candidates and parents that examination centers have been directed to display candidates' registers at the sitting centers/ schools where candidates registered in accordance with the UNEB Act, 2021. The display aims at giving candidates an opportunity to confirm the status of their registration as well as the correctness of the bio-data. Both candidates and parents are advised to take keen interest in the display looking out for correctness of the names, order of names, date of birth, gender, the pictures, and clarity of pictures, as well the subjects and papers registered for, in the case of UCE and UACE candidates.Where anomalies in the candidate's bio-data is found, candidates should inform the school authorities, who should also alert UNEB through the provided procedures on the UNEB portal, before the start of the examinations. In the event that a candidate, for some reason, was not registered, but has proof of having paid registration fees in time, UNEB should immediately be informed. This can be done by coming to our offices in Ntinda or using our toll free line: 0800-211-077; - or our customer care numbers: 0760-731-261/ 0776-865-556 / 0776-993335Registration status of candidates can also be confirmed using the Short Message Service (SMS) option on the mobile phone handset. You are required to know the full index number of the candidate; Type REG, leave space, enter full index number then send to 6600.Dan Odongo on behalf of UNEB calls upon all concerned parties especially teachers and parents to ensure that in the remaining time, the necessary teaching and learning, as well psychosocial support is offered to the candidates to help them effectively prepare for the examination. This is as opposed to planning to indulge in examination malpractice. Once supported, the candidates have the required competencies to pass the examinations without any interference
